LoL Lefties....
extract : "I worked for many years in a guitar store as a repairman. Parents would come in, buy a beginner level guitar for their child, and ask if I could convert it to lefty. These were the days when almost no left-handed guitars were available. If their kid was indeed a beginner, 4 out of 5 times I succeeded in talking them out of the conversion. Why? I grew up with lefty friends who played left-handed and saw how that severely limited them in 2 ways: 1) the lack of quality LH instruments on the market and 2) if they ever wanted to sit in or jam and didn't have their instrument with them, they were out of luck. I would then finish my argument with this - "Show me a left-handed piano, and I'll do the conversion". You could see the light come on. My first-born is a lefty. I taught him to play right-handed. Never slowed him down and he has thanked me for it several times now that he's grown..."

Re: LoL Lefties....

Re: LoL Lefties....
New lefty here to this forum. 55 years on the planet.
Learned to play classical guitare at age 6. Righthanded because there was no other way... so they said.
I was able to play decent the fingerstyle way, but if I tried to play a song and do a strum, all went wrong.
I couldn't create a good rythm. So I turned the guitar and played it upside down.
I gave up at 16, bought a lefthanded electric guitar at 20 and started from zero. Never looked back.
Nowadays I play mostly folk/bluegrass flatpicking style and still am working hard to lay down a good tone and rythm.
Pretty sure I would never be able to learn this style as a righthanded player.

welcome here Patrick; do you play as a real lefty, or on a reversed righty guitar? how are your strings tuned? as a reversed righty as Jimi? or????
not so many lefties here, you have a dedicated forum for lefties in France. More electric than acoustic anyway.

Re: LoL Lefties....
Hello Jeff,
I only have real lefties...strung them accordingly.
I know about 'riff gauche' (I saw you there), but as you state, they are more into electric guitars AND don't like to much the higher-end (read more expensive) acoustic guitars. (Instead I sold allready some guitars with 'leboncoin' of all places.)
So why I found my way to this forum. ( Aside I spent more time than can be healthy on the umgf)
Just discovering the lay out and different threads on this forum...
As English is easier to express myself, I thought this section was a good startingpoint.
However I will workout a little thing in French for the presentations thread. (My wife & children say I need more practise)
Thanks for your kind reply!
Last but not least, I envy some of your guitars...(eg; J35 Kopp, B&C J45,...)
Currently I own 3 acoustics and still 1 semi-hollow, though I don't play electric guitar anymore at all.
2 Per Marklund guitars ( 12fret D18 & 12fret 000-21), 2 Peter de Smet guitars (12fret Grand Concert & 18" semi-hollow)
I'll try to add pictures in the presentations thread.
As I found out that I'm preferring the dread, I will have to sell/trade some stuff to fund a 14-fret dread or slope.
I also learned with the D18 that I love Mahogany.
Kind regards,
Patrick

And he's a real nice guy and so is his family. There hospitality is beyond words.
Stayed 2 weeks at their place when I picked up the 000. His mother cooks as well as he build guitars.
Had the trunk full of Champagne and Orval beer when I drove up, so that might have to do with the good ambiance .
Can't say enough good words about his guitars.
